Advanced Chemistry with Vernier has 35 advanced chemistry experiments designed for use with Vernier data-collection technology. There are four student alternative versions included for each experiment: computer, LabQuest, calculator, and a generic version that covers all platforms. Experiments are included for the Vernier Temperature Probe, pH Sensor, Conductivity Probe, Drop Counter, Colorimeter, Gas Pressure Sensor, Current Probe, ORP Sensor, and Radiation Monitor.
Starting with the 2013–2014 school year, the AP Chemistry Course Description recommended labs have been reduced from 22 to 16 and at least six of the 16 experiments should be an inquiry-based model of instruction. Advanced Chemistry with Vernier provides a variety of experiments for the additional 10 non-inquiry experiments.
Use it in addition to Vernier Chemistry Investigations for Use with AP Chemistry (APCHEM) for a comprehensive set of topics.
Chemistry with Vernier is the foundational chemistry book for high school and college courses.
Chemistry with Vernier has more than 36 experiments in thermochemistry, gas laws, acid-base reactions, equilibrium, electrochemistry, electrolytes, states of matter, and more. Experiments are included for the Gas Pressure Sensor, Temperature Probe, pH Sensor, Conductivity Probe, Colorimeter, and Voltage Probe.
If you teach Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or college chemistry, you should also consider Advanced Chemistry with Vernier (CHEM-A) and Investigating Chemistry through Inquiry (CHEM-I).Table of ContentsExperimentSuggested Products1Endothermic and Exothermic ReactionsGo Direct® Temperature Probe2Freezing and Melting of WaterGo Direct® Temperature Probe3Another Look at Freezing TemperatureGo Direct® Temperature Probe (2)4Heat of Fusion for IceGo Direct® Temperature Probe5Find the Relationship: An Exercise in Graphing AnalysisNo probeware used6Boyle's Law: Pressure-Volume Relationship in GasesGo Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor7Pressure-Temperature Relationship in GasesGo Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor, Go Direct® Temperature Probe8Fractional DistillationGo Direct® Temperature Probe9Evaporation and Intermolecular AttractionsGo Direct® Temperature Probe (2)10Vapor Pressure of LiquidsGo Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor, Go Direct® Temperature Probe11Determining the Concentration of a Solution: Beer's LawGo Direct® Colorimeter12Effect of Temperature on Solubility of a SaltGo Direct® Temperature Probe13Properties of Solutions: Electrolytes and Non-ElectrolytesGo Direct® Conductivity Probe14Conductivity of Solutions: The Effect of ConcentrationGo Direct® Conductivity Probe15Using Freezing Point Depression to Find Molecular WeightGo Direct® Temperature Probe16Energy Content of FoodsGo Direct® Temperature Probe17Energy Content of FuelsGo Direct® Temperature Probe18Additivity of Heats of Reaction: Hess's LawGo Direct® Temperature Probe19Heat of Combustion: MagnesiumGo Direct® Temperature Probe20Chemical Equilibrium: Finding a Constant, KcGo Direct® Colorimeter21Household Acids and BasesGo Direct® pH Sensor22Acid RainGo Direct® pH Sensor23Titration Curves of Strong and Weak Acids and BasesGo Direct® pH Sensor24Acid-Base TitrationGo Direct® pH Sensor, Go Direct® Drop Counter, Precision Volume Dispenser25Titration of a Diprotic Acid: Identifying an UnknownGo Direct® pH Sensor, Go Direct® Drop Counter, Precision Volume Dispenser26Using Conductivity to Find an Equivalence PointGo Direct® Conductivity Probe, Go Direct® Drop Counter, Precision Volume Dispenser27Acid Dissociation Constant, KaGo Direct® pH Sensor28Establishing a Table of Reduction Potentials: Micro-Voltaic CellsGo Direct® Voltage Probe29Lead Storage BatteriesGo Direct® Voltage Probe30Rate Law Determination of the Crystal Violet ReactionGo Direct® Colorimeter31Time-Release Vitamin C TabletsGo Direct® pH Sensor32The Buffer in LemonadeGo Direct® pH Sensor33Determining the Free Chlorine Content of Swimming Pool WaterGo Direct® Colorimeter34Determining the Quantity of Iron in a Vitamin TabletGo Direct® Colorimeter35Determining the Phosphoric Acid Content in Soft DrinksGo Direct® pH Sensor36Microscale Acid-Base TitrationGo Direct® pH Sensor

Each of the 15 experiments in this book kicks off with a case study designed to engage high-school and college-level chemistry students. Immerse them in the excitement of solving crimes through hands-on experimentation using Vernier sensors such as pH, pressure, conductivity, and temperature to investigate complex questions involving forensics. Students explore gas pressure through a failed bottle rocket launch, Beer’s law through a case of poisoned wine, and even more through engaging forensics investigations.
